Disqualified Boxers Return After Gender Tests
Lin Yu-ting and Imane Khelif Eligible to Return to Competition
Boxers Cleared After Additional Testing
Two female boxers who were disqualified from last year's World Championships for failing gender eligibility tests are eligible to compete again after passing additional tests, boxing's governing body said on Wednesday.
Algerian Imane Khelif and Taiwanese Lin Yu-ting were among the first athletes to be subjected to new rules imposed by the International Boxing Association (IBA) requiring boxers to undergo DNA testing to determine their sex.
Both boxers had previously failed the tests but have since been cleared to compete after further examination by the IBA's medical commission.
"The IBA has received the results of the additional tests conducted on Imane Khelif and Lin Yu-ting and can confirm that both boxers are eligible to compete in women's boxing," the IBA said in a statement.
The boxers are now eligible to compete at the Paris Olympics, which start in July.
