Airlines Grounded

Travel resumes after global tech outage disrupts flights

Hundreds of US flights were grounded Friday morning

A technical outage at a major communications provider disrupted air travel around the world on Friday, grounding hundreds of flights in the United States. The outage, which began around 10:30 a.m. ET, affected systems used by airlines to book flights, check in passengers, and communicate with air traffic control.

Major airlines including Delta, United, and American Airlines were forced to ground their flights. The outage also caused delays and cancellations at airports around the world, including London Heathrow, Paris Charles de Gaulle, and Frankfurt Airport.

Outage resolved, flights resuming

The outage was resolved by early afternoon, and airlines began to resume flights shortly after. However, some delays and cancellations are still being reported. Passengers are advised to check with their airline for the latest information on their flight status.

The outage is the latest in a series of disruptions to air travel in recent months. In June, Southwest Airlines canceled thousands of flights due to operational issues. And in April, a computer glitch at United Airlines caused hundreds of flights to be delayed or canceled.
